On playing in a Tainted Hollow...

Skizlum Skallaglamm's Zargnoth Adventures

Life in the big cities is nice, but it's time to head back out into the wildernesss...

I wake refreshed, and with my health at 109%. This is the life... I'm disappointed by my failure to get any new informaton- I'd hoped that buying the most expensive stay (I1) would convince the Inkeeper to tell me something I didn't know. Still, weapon training went well, as always, and newly declared level 5, I equip my Trident. I turn on that Gold Ring and, noticing I'm not wearing my helmet anymore, put that back on. I head for that Tainted Hollow, but not before having to fight a Goo Snake. Killing it, I quickly check my Gator Armor, which is thankfully whole. The Tainted Hollow contains may creatures: Gnitgnats (which follow me!), Killer Koala Bears, three Possessed Palms, all of which I kill easily. Lastly, the dreaded Red Wood Palm! I flee! What? I soon realize that upon landing in the Zargnoth with almost no health, I lowered my riskiness and never increased it again. Aargh. Lowering my head in shame I trudge into the jungle (promptly losing the Gnitgnat swarm I was overjoyed to acquire), and look for a place to sleep. Almost as an afterthought, I check out a new Creature: a Chomper. I kill it, doing 76 in two rounds, while it does 37 to me. Nothing to be gained from the carcass.

Making my way back to the Inn again, I decide to try the Tainted Hollow once more. Resetting my riskiness to its usual maximum level, I consider, and then decide to see what effect Fireballs will have on the denizens of the Hollow. The Hollow is tougher this time, almost prepared for me, and I fight a Gargantu Tree Sloth and three Possessed Palms. Then the Red Wood Palm! I Fireball it for 15 measly damage, and am forced to flee due to the rigors of these couple turns. Frustrated, I trudge back to the Inn, signing up there for some more Weapons Training, this time with Pointed Weapons. Next turn, the Tainted Hollow again...

Out from The Wooden Leg and off for another trip into the Tainted Hollow. This one seems to be going better- a Gnitgnat, three Possessed Palms, a Killer Koala Bear, and then... I'm out of spell points. The last Torchlight gets missed by two points. Sigh. Nothing new to report, as well.

Back to the Inn again to rest up, and prepare for one last shot into the Tainted Hollow, after which, win or lose, it's back to good old exploration. On my way back I zig a little out of the way to check out a Giant Tree Squid. It seems pretty tough: in two rounds of combat I do 91 to it, and it does 87 to me. Neither of us die. I also run past a Crobbler and pick up my fourth Trick- nice to shore up my weak point a bit...

Out from the Inn again. A quick kill of a Goo Snake (I forgot to employ my usual trick: when I know I'll be meeting a Goo Snake, I issue the 'C 190' order- the capture will fail and be turned off, but I won't fight the snake), and I'm at the Tainted Hollow. Two Killer Koala Bears and three Possessed Palms later, I finally face down the Red Wood Palm. 145 damage to it, 93 to me, and it's over- victory at last! Treasure: from three different spots I find 50 Oculars, a Dragonbone, and a Locked Large Box. Now I can sleep peacefully...

A quick stop to check out a new creature my spells have turned up: a Giant Silk Spider. Nothing innately interesting about it- we trade damage for a round, me doing 88 to him, he 30 to me, and I, already weakened by last turns Hollow exploits, flee. Someone yells to me from a distance: "Danger Here...". Methinks it must be Tong the Mad still, as I've seen neither hide nor hair of any other. And so, back to the Inn one last (for the immediate future) time, and I pull out my lockpicks and start fiddli ng. Voila! The Large Box pops open and out rolls a King's Spiked Helmet. Now here's armor with style! Five Unreadable Scrolls also rest in the box, but as I already know all the 'Scroll spells', those are bound for the used books rack here in the Inn...

Having satisfied my curiousity about Tainted Hollows, I think I'll go see what else the future holds...
