One Pumped Up Babe's Zargnoth Adventures
I'm here! I'm across! Finally... Some minor news of note- the bug that screws up your movement report if you travel at all on the same turn you catch the balloon, before you catch the balloon, still seems to exist. My movement had several "phantom" creature reports on it... Landing- I landed in the same square my sister monster, Skizlum, did. However, the reports I have from another monster who left the same Inn shows that they landed one square off that. So, the theory of staking out the landing site and waiting to slaughter others seems disproved. However, we still suggest that once it is seen that those violent groups are crossing, any later monster crossing should have a parachute. Never being one to listen to advice, I, of course, skipped the parachute. 146 damage from the landing, OUCH!!! Let's see, some quick math: at the time of the ride, Skizlum had 234 Health and lost 112. That's 48% lost. At the time of my ride, I had 201 and lost 146. That's 73%. Okay, no pattern, just checking... To travels- of course, any fighting I do is going to be one-sided for the first several turns, so you'll have to excuse my "cowardice"... A Thermadon Rex right off the bat? FLEE!!! A couple new (to me) creatures do show up on my first full turn across: a Giant Tree Squid and a Grabber Bush. I fight the Giant Tree Squid, doing 66 to it and taking 21 damage before I flee. The Grabber Bush I escape after flinging one quick Rock its way (8 damage). Nothing else of note to report- I'm heading straight for the Town, I think... Nothing to report on my second full day across- I found an expected trail, and fled from a Chitinous Chaser. It did 79 health to me in just one round, and I definately need to hit an Inn. I did 41 to it in the same one round. Next turn: a Loggerhead camp, but with my currently low Health I don't expect much... This low Health stuff is starting to get old- next time I wait for a Parachute! This may be an all-new cowardice record. This turn, I fled from: one Wanna Bee, one Scatamunga Beast, two Chitinous Chasers, one Loggerhead, one White Tiger, and one Mangy Beast. Feh. Three or four turns to the Inn and Health... At last! Death, mayhem, destruction, and general killing of things. After several turns of fleeing, I gird my loins, gather my courage, and seem to be done running. First into a Large Cave- same old stuff as back in the western lands... I kill, in short order, a Xanxu Cave Snake, a Roof Rat, and a Hawk Buzzard. Treasure? One Silver Jagged Dagger. I think the conclusion here is that anything on the island before is not changed here in the Zargnoth. Anyway, after leaving the Cave, I kill a couple old-world creatures, and top off the turn with a Grabber Bush. 52 points to it, 31 Health to me, and its dead! My first 'new Creature' kill (and of course you don't get anything from them...). By the time I settle down to nap the river is in spyglass range. Another Grabber Bush bothers me this time around, and it meets the same fate as the last (53 to it, 41 to me). I meet the Bridge Trolls, and after a quick unsuccessful Love Dance attempt, I decide just to pay the toll. I cross the River on their Bridge and move on, thankful I've yet to find a new mount (and thereby avoided the double toll the mount would have earned me). Continuing on, I meet up with a Nitrohen, which joins the Grabber Bush in oblivion. It takes 42 to die, while I take a much more acceptable 11 points of Health loss. Unfortunately, however, I'm exactly at my item limit, and I leave the Nitroegg to decompose. A Jagwere! I finally find a Jagwere- this haversuit is starting to fade at the seams... It dies easily, and I realize with horror I'm carrying too much already. I leave the lovely Jagwere skin to rot, casting longing looks back after it. I finish off yet another Grabber Bush, and frankly I'm so tired of them I'm not going to bother reporting their Health levels anymore. Two trips into a Graveyard yields 11 Oculars the first time through, and a Slink Bauble the next. Not really suitable for a lady of my caliber. Still and all, I did kill eight Creatures this time, and that ain't bad after what I've been doing recently. Well, a couple more Loot 'n' Vandalizes here at the Ancient Graveyard, both of which turn up exactly zip. Another Grabber Bush bites the dust- this Island needs a nice herbicide. And the Town at last! A jog through the Far Exotica tells me that it's not strictly a money exchange- those Jossmen do make a profit on the currency they sell. What else should I have expected from a Jossman? Nighttime at the Inn, and the promise of Health with the coming of another day. The bad news is that the Inn doesn't offer me any new Voodoo knowledges- I'd been hoping I could learn how to fill my Lantern there- the real handicap in being godless is not having the Torchlight spell... (Thanks to those of you who contacted me on this- though the Lantern blurb may mention "special oil", you really don't need it. Don't make my mistake- if you have a Lantern, at least try it out- it apparently should work!) Kind of a run-around turn today. I spend the turn selling off three of my four shields, which nets just about enough to pay for another round of weapons training. After my short jaunt to the Forge, I decide to check out the surrounding countryside. Out in the Sticks, here, there seems to be very little. I do find a Huffinpuffer, who goes the full distance with me before succumbing with 73 points of damage taken. He caused 66 to me. Nothing else new to report. Back to the Inn, where there's a Monster there: Skizlum Skallaglamm! One tough-looking monster, she is. Okay, I'm finished with the city. It's time for more explorations. |
